Lately, I've become somewhat of an obsessive Pinterest user. It appeals to the magpie in me, who just wants to appreciate lovely things. There's some genuinely great content on there and I'm finding it particularly appealing for a few things - ideas for workout routines, interior decor and inspiration for outfits. F
It's really begun to influence what I'm buying, and I already have a 'want list' of things that I will be buying as soon as payday hits thanks to my obsessive browsing on there. So I thought I'd do a quick round-up of what's really caught my eye lately:
>> Pastel Gem Rings
I don't know where on earth these are from (if you know, pleaaaasse comment and let me know!), but I do know it was love at first sight when they popped up on my feed! The opaqueness! The chunkiness! The candy colours! Oh, my head is spinning just looking at them. I love the edgy look of the rough-cut, rock finish with the soda-pop colour. Beautiful.

One of the best things about Pinterest is that it sort of reaffirms your own personal taste. I'm forever finding oufits that I love, only to realise that I already own all of the elements, and just hadn't thought of pairing them together like that.
In this case, I love that the slouchy, 'don't care' vibe of the grey marl sweatshirt and black suede Nikes offsets the potential raunch factor of the leather mini. And when paired with the Ray-Bans and the insolent slash of crimson lipstick, it's absolute undone perfection.
If it was me, with my less perfect pins, I would wear my new black wedge trainers. I already own a black leather Reiss mini and grey quilted Topshop sweater, so I will be recreating this look as soon as I can!
>> Stormy Purple and Midnight Blue Shadow
Wow. Just wow. Look how amazing this purple and navy blue shadow combo looks on her amber eyes! I'm especially in love with this because I have those colour eyes myself ( a light, orangey-toned brown) and I often think they can look a bit boring. This really makes them dazzle. The shimmery navy is phenomenal. I know Urban Decay do a great, vibrant navy shade ('Blue Bus' from the Book of Shadows Vol 4), so I may have to try and get my hands on it!

I don't watch reality tv, snob that I am, so I'm only vaguely aware of this lady through trashy gossip mags - Vicky Pattison from 'Geordie Shore'. I also know (through those trashy mags) that she recently lost a shedload of weight and seems to be showcasing this by going out dressed in a series of very nice outfits. I must say, I think she's beautiful and I love that raven hair and blue eyes combination (wish I had it!).
Specifically, I'm loving her in a bit of PVC...
The first outfit, with the nude PVC skirt, is done very well. Obviously, anything like that has strong sex worker connotations, but the barely-there strappy sandals work well with it. I must say I love the black satin bustier with it, although I'm not sure I'd be confident enough to wear this outfit.
This second version is more like something I'd actually wear (if I could afford a Chanel bag...clearly the wages of sin -or reality television- are better than I thought!). The white t-shirt just tones the raunch down a notch, and the pointed courts keep it classic. I love this skirt, and I'm buying one on payday. Topshop and Missguided both sell PVC skirts if you suddenly have an urge for one.
Here's some ideas also on how to style them:
>> Grey Polish with Neon Tips
This is so cool and really refreshing. The little hit of neon lifts the grey polish nicely, without being full on. I'm at an age where I've started to worry about the age-appropriateness of certain things (neon, glitter, hair bows, slogan t-shirts...) and this is a great way to introduce a pop of colour without being too full on. Plus, I'm not great at nail art, but this is beginner level! I love the thin-ness of the tips as well, so much more classy. Now where to get neon yellow nail polish?

I don't really go out on the town as much as I used to, but when I do, dammit I want to dress up and feel great! And sometimes Pinterest can give some great inspiration for how to style up items into the best look.
Again, I own most of these items, but wouldn't have thought of styling them like this. The chunky boyfriend watch is a stunner (love the tortoiseshell face on this one), and the black ankle boots - of which I have about a million pairs - give a bit of a edge to the glittery mini. The skirt is the kind of thing you wear to a Christmas party - but pairing it with the low-key white camisole makes it okay for summer too -double win. The animal print on the clutch adds a bit of interest with pattern, and I'm in love with the khaki OPI polish - again not the obvious choice to me, but so much better. I've scoured the net and I think its called 'Uh-oh Roll Down the Window', from the Touring America collection, so I need that in my life too!
What have you found to inspire you lately?
I freaking love Millie Mackintosh, star of the not-at-all reality show, Made In Chelsea. I can't help it. I'm hypnotised by her. The perfect caramel locks (how on earth do I get that hair colour?), the glowing skin, the whip-thin figure and the haughty pout. I cannot get enough. It's bordering on an obsession now, as I'm noticing more and more 'Millie' style purchases creeping into my wardrobe.
Seriously, I've now bought several pastel tweed jackets, a feather gilet and a couple of chiffon blouses with Millie on my mind. And, as per my previous post, I am dangerously close to purchasing a pair of skinny leather trousers, all because the lady Mack likes them...
I caught one episode of MIC a few months ago, having never watched it, and was instantly mesmerised by the gilded lives, immaculate outfits and sleazy relationships, and ended up getting the 40D app on my iPhone so that I could catch up on several series worth (much to the disgust of my husband, who thinks its an absolute pile of nonsensical rot. And he would be right. But oh, its such pretty rot!).
And the star of the show for me is Miss Millie Mack. So, how do I love her style? Let me count the ways...
1. She pulls off a pop of bright.
If you said to me the term 'orange leather jacket' in connection to something you actually wanted me to wear, I'd usually run away screaming. And yet Millie takes the same item, and makes it look instantly chic with the aid of a cream chiffon vest. And she gets away with it! That takes a certain kind of skill that I can only respect...
2. She doesn't give a damn about seasons
Well, a furry gilet and boots wouldn't be my first choice on a day warm enough to break out the denim shorts, but what do I know? I am but a moth to Millie's fashion flame. She breaks all the rules with this outfit and she does it with complete conviction, proving my theory that attitude is 80% of all style. Even the felt fedora works (somehow) when it should, by rights, look oh-so-wrong. But I adore that gilet so much that I purchased a damn near identical one from Miss Selfridge when I would never normally have given it a second glance. That's the Millie effect in action!
3. She mixes up her style
Millie is a perfect blend of so many different styles- a little bit classic, a little bit raunchy, a little bit boho- and what she achieves is a great mid-ground where she never looks overdone. I love this combination of tweed blazer with leather shorts so much, it's just bang on the money. And of course it showcases her enviable legs...
4. She gives great red carpet
Whether its the BAFTAs or the BRITs or anything in between, Millie knows the power of a show-stopping red-carpet frock. Its ridiculous. She almost looks more at home in a floor-sweeping gown than anything else. And the two themes she's gone for recently...green with envy at her emerald green, thigh-split gown with jewelled belt, and I adored her white greek goddess dress as well. Wowzer!
5. She makes the trends her own
Miss Mack is always straight onto the catwalk styles, but somehow she manages to do them in a way that looks utterly her own, and never too contrived. She tends to favour a skinny-on-the-bottom, floaty-on-the-top silhouette that really works for her, but she always seems to make sure one star piece is the main attraction without detracting from the impact of what she wears. I get the impression (from watching a few YouTube videos of her discussing her wardrobe) that she puts a fair amount of thought into her outfits, and it sure pays off. I haven't ever actually seen her in anything that looks bad. In fact, every outfit I see her in, I want to own.
In short, Millie is a bona fide member of the glossy posse, and has the sort of refined polish to her that only a sweetie heiress could hope to achieve. But she has that rare talent of making anything she wears- even if its Topshop- look designer and utterly delicious. I look forward to seeing more of her outfits in the future!
I'm going on one of my increasingly rare nights out next week, and it got me thinking about outfit options and different ways I could style up a plain black vest I have that I wanted to wear. So I came up with the following four options, and am now deciding which one will make the cut!

Hmmm, decisions decisions!
Her haunting, smoky voice that sounds so right for now, her tumbling, copper locks and especially her smoking hot style, which she herself describes as "gangster Nancy Sinantra". Genius!
I know there has been somewhat of a Lana backlash recently, which all seems to centre around 1) she has a stage name and 2) she may have had lip fillers.
With the stage name- so what? Celebrity goddesses have used them from time immemorial, to great effect. Norma Jean Baker, anyone? And if she, or anyone at her record company feels that Lana comes across better than Lizzy, then I don't see why that's a problem. You're not always the finished product right away.
And as for the fillers, that's no one's business but her own. And really, there can't be many women left in the entertainment industry who haven't had something or other done.
I think the backlash is more to do with the media hyping her up as the next big thing, which always seems to irritate some people.
However, she really floats my boat.! I love her retro look.
And just in- some very exciting news! Mulberry have announced their new bag the 'Del Rey' in honour of the girl herself! Love it! Now if only I could afford one myself...
To celebrate, I have posted some pictures that show the best of Lana's style so far.
Lately, the style of Zooey Deschanel has been catching my eye a lot, and I'm beginning to really like it. In fact, I think she might even be slowly becoming one of my style icons.
Blame it on a longing for spring. Her style is a little louder than my usual cup of tea, a little more quirky and jokey, whereas I prefer classic and well tailored, a little bit beatnik, a little bit rock (see icons below). Perhaps it's a longer for lighter times, but her brand of tongue in cheek, almost twee, cutesy innocence is really appealing to me at the moment. So, what am I especially loving about her?
1) Bows - Zooey has a lot of outfits with a bow around the waist, bow details on her shoes and bags, or even in her hair - it's a really sweet, girly look. I have a big thing for bows as well!
2) Ruffles - Normally, I prefer fitted styles, but there is an inner 8 year old in me that loves ruffles and poofs of fabric...and Zooey does this really well.
3) Bright colour palette - no-one could accuse Zooey of being shy of colour, she regularly wears bright yellows, reds and aquas, and she really pulls it off with her lovely peaches and cream skin. She's bold and eyecatching, but seems to have mastered the trick of not going too over the top, and using one or two bold pieces to lift her whole look.
4) The Fringe. Okay, I have fringe envy. I absolutely love a full fringe like Zooey sports, I think it looks really chic and young-spirited at the same time. I have attempted- and failed- many times to have a fringe like this, but I have a really short forehead and it just looks weird on me. Still, I am in serious envy of Zooey's pretty dark chocolate tresses.
5) Her makeup - Yep, I'm all about the cat eyes, and Zooey's pretty eyes lend themselves so well to a flick of 60's style eyeliner. I also love her bright lips - she wears a really pretty shade of pink in 'New Girl' that is so divine, and she often wears colours that really pop with her skin tone.
6) Peter pan collars and little shorts - it's almost a childish way of dressing, but Zooey makes it look fresh and modern and somehow manages to give it a subversive sex appeal without ever looking like she's trying too hard. Love it!
