While it’s true that the way we look has a lot to do with our lifestyle, beauty is not always as simple as ‘drink more water’ or ‘eat more greens.’ Sure, we can go for a jog to get that blood pumping, but some of us look far from young after a good exercise - tired and drained of energy seems to be a better description.

That’s why we love the magic of the makeup and its subtle ways of highlighting our best sides - and covering up what we’d rather not show. Here is a handful of tips to rewind the clock before a big day or a night out for that extra boost of confidence when you need it the most.



Don’t be afraid of colour


If you always wear the same neutral makeup, it’s a good idea to vamp it up a bit when you’d like to outshine the rest of the party. Keep in mind that heavy colours and smokey eyes may wear your eyes down a bit and make you look slightly older - which is great when you’re 16 but perhaps not what you’re looking for when you’re all grown up. Moisturise but don’t get carried away


The beauty industry can go a bit overboard sometimes and it seems like the use of a three-step skincare routine is an absolute must to any modern woman. Don’t let them fool you into purchasing every new product out there just because you feel like the last one you bought had no effect - sometimes, it’s not much a moisturizer can do for your skin.

There are a lot of excellent options you want a more an effect that lasts a bit longer than until you remove your makeup in the evening. While aesthetic treatments would easily put makeup artists out of a job if everyone used it, many professionals point to it as a safe treatment when you want a more permanent solution. It’s not actually permanent, though, but it will give you that plump look you simply can’t find on the high street.

Soothe your skin with milk


Anyone fancy a milk face mask? It’s just as straightforward as it sounds like and comes out of a carton rather than a fancy jar; simply soak a clean washcloth in milk and put it over your face. Milk contains amino acids, fat, protein as well as Vitamin A - everything you need when it’s cold outside, and your skin is red or irritated.

The acid helps to exfoliate your skin, by the way, so that the fat can moisturize your skin properly. It’s an unconventional and really cost-effective way of soothing your face in the harsh winter climate. Feel free to add a bit of honey in there as well, though, for an extra luxurious feeling - even if you’re just soaking up regular household ingredients.

Besides from these easy tricks to look a few years younger, you should still remember to take care of yourself. Stress and a lack of sleep take a toll on our health and it certainly shows after some time, regardless of how good you are at pretending to cope with everything. Treat yourself to a lazy weekend, have a long bath, and tell your skin to drink its milk.
