This gorgeous mesh insert skater dress from spoiledbrat.co.uk (great name!) would really pop with the heart charm Oliver Bonas necklace and the red strappy Guess heels.
Or if you're feeling more daring these gorgeous red leopard skinny trousers from River Island would certainly make a statement - especially if you found the black mini tiara and loveheart patterned iPhone cover from Etsy. And if you want to be a heartbreaker yourself, walk all over him in these gorgeous black studded boots from Christian Louboutin.
A light charcoal eye with fanned out lashed and ombre, cherry red lips against porcelain, matte skin would finish off the look nicely.
Happy V-Day everyone xx
Happy V-Day everyone xx
Since launching the blog on social media, I’ve been making all sorts of discoveries of brilliant blogs to follow and gorgeous products, mainly through using diffent hashtags like #bbloggers and #30sbloggers (sneaking in there!). It seems to have opened up a lot of possibilities.
One of the girls I’m following is Katie (@sugarfixx) and she recently did this wonderful post that was a ‘TMI Tag’.
As I previously said, I’ve had a few issues with linking what I do on my blog to who I actually am, and I’ve been a bit shy about using my real identity for all sorts of reasons. But in the interests of opening up, sharing, and turning this blog into a truly social one, I’m going to hop on her tag!
Some of the questions are a bit young for me so the answers may be slightly bizarre… Here we go:
1. What are you wearing?
I’ve just gotten in from work, so I’m wearing what I wore into the office today: a black pencil skirt from Reiss, a black bow blouse from French Connection and a camel v-neck jumper over the top from Toppers (it’s cold here at the moment!), and some black patent ankle boots (Primarni).
2. Ever been in love?
I’m married…I think that hopefully answers that one!
3. Ever had a terrible break-up?
Yes, or certainly ones that seemed terrible at the time. Everything is always the end of the world in your teens. But I couldn’t regret them at all because they led me to the lovely man who is now my husband.
4. How tall are you?
5’7’’, so pretty tall, but not supermodel height! I like my height fine although very high heels make me about 6ft tall!
5. How much do you weigh?
Ouch. Personal! About 140 pounds. People are always surprised if I tell them my weight (which I like to take as a compliment…I guess?!), but like I said, I’m tall. I’m a UK 8-10 but I do weight a lot! I think I have heavy bones!
6. Any tattoos?
None. I change my mind too often about what I like to have anything permanent!
7. Any piercings?
Just the ears. I was well into alternative and rock music when I was a teenager, so I wanted plenty done at the time but I’m too much of a scaredy cat with needles to go through with it.
8. OTP?
Okay, I’ll admit I didn’t have a clue what this meant. And I’m still not sure. The interweb suggests it means ‘one true pairing’ meaning your favourite couple. I’m not sure I have one. Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling in ‘Drive’? I’m confused!
9. Favourite Show?
I love House. It never gets old! I discover something new every time I re-watch it.
10. Favourite bands?
Little Dragon. AlunaGeorge. Indiana. The Deftones. Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. Skream. SBTRKT.
11. Something you miss?
I miss my mum. She lives in Cornwall, which is really far away from where I live, about 300 miles. I don’t get to see her very often, and sometimes that really sucks!
12. Favourite song?
That is soooo hard to answer! How on earth to chose? I can’t narrow it down more than this: ‘The Warmth’ by Incubus is what I want played at my funeral (morbid I know). ‘Inflatable’ by Bush was the first dance song at my wedding. And ‘Wildfire’ by SBTRKT and ‘XXXO’ by M.I.A are my most played songs at the moment!
13. How old are you?
28. Can’t believe it myself, I still feel about 21.
14. Zodiac sign?
Gemini. And I think I match most of the characteristics of one! My birthday is 1st June, same as Marilyn Monroe
15. Quality you look for in a partner?Curiosity. I want someone that likes to try new things, meet new people and be ambitious about moving onwards and upwards.
16. Favourite quote?"Look how black the sky is, the writer said. I made it that way." -Bret Easton Ellis. "Pleasure's a sin, and sometimes sin's a pleasure." -Lord Byron
17. Favourite Actor?
Leonardo DiCaprio. Of course I was madly in love with him when Romeo +Juliet came out (which is still one of my favourite films) but I’m actually much more of a fan of his post-heartthrob phase – films like Inception, Blood Diamond and The Departed have proved his acting chops again and again! I’ll watch anything he’s in.
18. Favourite colour?
Ummm. Not sure, because it depends what it’s for? I think I’m a fan of grey. I like grey jumpers, grey walls in interiors etc. But that sounds really boring! Perhaps pink, if that’s not too girly!
19. Loud music or soft?
L.O.U.D. Turn it up or switch it off.
20. Where do you go when you’re sad?
To bed. Because nothing bad can get you under the covers, right?
21. How long does it take you to shower?About 20 minutes, depending on if I’m washing my hair or not.
22. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
An hour. 15 for the shower (with no hair wash), 15 minutes to get dressed and pack my bag, 10 minutes for hair, and 20 for make-up. I might possibly be a little high maintenance.
23. Ever been in a physical fight?
No. And the thought doesn’t appeal!
24. Turn on?
Red lipstick. Macaroons. Champagne. Bubble baths (Marie Antoinette, basically!). Specifically in a man? Knowledge and authority.
25. Turn off?
Cold. Cold is never sexy! Maths. Socks with holes in!
26. The reason I joined YouTube?
I don’t post on YouTube but I joined mainly to watch make-up tutorials, which I do in spades.
27. Fears?
All the usual ones! I’m not keen on spiders. Lately, I worry a fair bit about becoming a mother, because that’s probably the next step for me and I have all sorts of fears about hospital and childbirth!
28. Last thing that made you cry?
I can’t recall. I haven’t been majorly upset for a while, which is good.
29. Last time you said you loved someone?
The other day to my husband. I tell him every day. I’m sort of superstitious about it!
30. Meaning behind your YouTube name? There’s no meaning behind it. Its just a word I thought sounded cool ‘ElectricLove’ and some numbers. My blog name is a bit more interesting. I’ve actually renamed it three times. It started life as ‘All The Little Pieces’, but I got annoyed with that because the address was already claimed- so the one I had didn’t match the title of the blog. Then I redesigned it and renamed it ‘White Hot Noise’ but I never really took to that. Finally, I thought it would be better if I cut to the chase and said what the blog was really about, which is basically all the shallow, fun, shiny things in the world that put a smile on my face. So, it’s now ‘Seriously Shallow’ – because I’m serious about this stuff, even though it seems trivial!
31. Last book you read?
‘Young Romantics’ by Daisy Hay. It’s a ‘group biography’ of some of the romantic poets such as Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary Shelley and how all their fates were intertwined. A good read if you like history and English Literature.
32. The book you’re currently reading?
‘Helen of Troy’ by Bettany Hughes. It’s an examination of the Mycenaean culture and their myths and times. I love social history at the moment and what I’m reading is generally either a history book or a biography.
33. Last show you watched?
‘Family Guy’ – it tends to be what I watch in bed just before I fall asleep!
34. Last person you talked to?
Probably a colleague!
35. The relationship between you and the last person you texted?
The last person I texted was actually a club promoter. Don’t know them personally.
36. Favourite food?
I love Peking Duck with the little pancakes and hoisin sauce. Super delicious.
37. Place you want to visit?
I would love to go to Venice. Also Iceland to go in the hot springs and see the northern lights.
38. Last place you were?
At work – not very exciting! I live and work in Nottingham. But my friends and family live all over so I'm always up and down the motorway visiting.Cornwall, London, Manchester and Cambridge are my usual destinations.
39. Do you have a crush?
I don’t think I’m allowed to answer that one! If it can be someone famous...I like an actor called Aneurin Barnard (he was in The White Queen and Moonfleet). Or Johnathan Rhys-Meyers. Seems I go for Welsh boys!
40. Last time you kissed someone?
My husband, Sebastian, this morning.
41. Last time you were insulted?
It was quite a while now, but I was doing a ‘reverse mentoring’ scheme, where you’re paired up with a business bigshot to give them some fresh insights from the ground level. The director I was working with arranged for me to meet one of his managers and she just plain didn’t turn up. I was sitting around for half an hour and she never contacted me to apologise. I found that unspeakably rude, especially since I was giving up time out of my busy day to do something voluntary!
42. Favourite flavour of sweet?
I love rose water Turkish delight, or salted caramels.
43. What instruments do you play?
None, sadly. I’ve never learnt but I wish I could. I’d love to be able to play the piano. Is it too late for lessons?
44. Favourite piece of jewellery?
I suppose I should say my wedding and engagement rings. They’re really simple, emerald cut diamonds on a platinum band. If it comes to jewellery I’ve bought myself, I’m obsessed with my rose gold boyfriend watch from Michael Kors. I wear it with everything!
45. Last sport you played?I don’t play any sport, but I do run home from work, so I’m focusing on running at the moment. It’s making me feel so much better in myself and really boosting my energy levels, although I don’t always enjoy it at the time. At university I was big into fencing. I've always planned to pick it back up but don't want to make the time committment!
46. Last song you sang?
‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ by Drake, while I was on the dancefloor at the weekend, pretty sure I was singing along!
47. Favourite chat up line?
I have a horror of chat up lines. They’re so insincere. Would much prefer just having a normal conversation.
48. Have you ever used it?
Certainly not!
49. Last time you hung out with anyone?
On Wednesday night - hung out with four good friends, we went out for some food and a few drinks and then went to see Indiana play (she was amazing)
50. Who should answer these questions next?

50. Who should answer these questions next?
Anyone using the #bbloggers or #30sbloggers tag!
Hello Dolls!
Don't panic, despite the title I'm not actually naked, just getting into a few of the new launches from the Naked line by Urban Decay.
Taking my blog social has been a really good experience. I've 'met' a few really inspiring new bloggers who have been very welcoming and I'm also now attending the Midlands Blogger Meet Up being organised soon. It's a very different feeling from blogging away in isolation!
The only downside is that I'm now seeing so many great product recommendations, and this week I ended up running out at lunchtime and raiding the nearest Urban Decay counter. I also got a few other small goodies recently, so I thought it was time for a bit of a mini haul and a review of the UD goodies!
Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm, £23.00, House of Fraser
I didn't intend to buy this at all, but it caught my eye and just sort of seduced me! So here is a quick and dirty review of a new personal favourite.
>> What's the hype?
A relatively late entrant to the world of BBs, I'd imagine UD had to think carefully about what they would do to stand out. So what you get is a cream absolutely loaded with benefits. They say:"Ditch your daytime anti-ageing treatment entirely. Leave your moisturiser behind. And on the days when you really want to play it low-key, skip your foundation too. This is one beauty balm with INSANE benefits."
- Hydrates instantly and improves hydration over time
- Primes so makeup goes on beautifully and stays put
- Protects with SPF20 and contains an ingredient that helps guard skin against daily stress
- Perfects to instantly even out skintone and minimise pores, lines, wrinkles and redness
- Treats to firm skin, improve elasticity and provide measurable anti-aging benefits
>> What do I think?
All of the above sounds like the most.amazing.bb.EVER! I feel like so many companies rushed to get onto the BB bandwagon when they first became popular, without ever really understanding what a BB cream is supposed to be. Its not just a tinted moisturiser. It should have benefits that are both short and long term - a literal wonder cream. And from the above, it sounds like UD have really embraced the ethos.
First of all, the packaging. Oh, the packaging. You should know by now that I'm a complete sucker for a pretty box, and the Naked range is the prettiest out there, in all its soft rose-gold and pewter glory. It's definitely something you'd be proud to have in your beauty bag.
You get 35ml, which is okay. I thought it was a lot less because the tube looks small, but when I checked my Garnier one, that's only 5ml more (although it is a lot cheaper). The price isn't ruinous, but its certainly enough to expect some serious results.
I'm sort of reserving judgement as to the cumulative anti-aging benefits, so I can only go on the results from a couple of applications here. I was worried that it was a little orange in the shop, but it seems to adjust and blend in, which is great as it only comes in one shade at the moment.

Although I wouldn't skip moisturiser all together in the winter I can see this replacing a few different products in my regime, meaning the price tag is a little more justifiable. I'm looking forward to seeing if this does make me look younger, in which case its definitely staying a part of my daily kit!
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Double Ended Eye Pencil, £12.00, House of Fraser
This was what I really went into the store for in the first place. The UD 24/7 Glide On Pencils are well know for their creamy texture and rich colour pay-off. And when I saw they'd launched a new line of double ended shades, I was determined to get my hands on this one in particular!
Shades available are:
- Venus/Crave - a darkest brown/black and a shimmery champagne colour (pictured)
- Blackheart/Darkside - purpley-taupe satin and smoky black matte with red micro-glitter
- Perversion/Pistol - blackest-black matte and grey-brown shimmer
- Zero/Whiskey - zealous black cream and rich brown matte

And now for the mini haul!
A few nice things I've accumulated this month.
Mac Dazzleglass in 'Creamy Pink', £17.50, maccosmetics.co.uk
Believe it or not, despite trying almost every other product they do, I've never actually bought a Mac lipgloss. Why? Well, I actually think lipgloss is one of those things where cheap ones are generally just as good as the more expensive options, and Mac never had any added extras to make me think it was worth it!
This Dazzleglass hasn't changed that opinion. Its a pretty shade in the tube but it goes on so sheer its practically clear. The formula isn't moisturising so it can leave your lips feeling a bit sticky and then dry when it wears off. I much prefer a balm gloss.
They say:
"Lipcolour that dazzles with light and shine to bring an exciting dimensional pop to your lips. Large particle pearls reflect and refract light to mimic the brilliance of quartz and opal crystal. Provides exceptional shine with a crystalline iridescence. Non-sticky, non-tacky, lightweight and moisturizing. Glides on. Wear alone, or layer over lipstick or Lipglass for dramatic effect."
This product was nice when I layered it over a pigmented lipstick for a little shine, but it really wouldn't work on it's own, so I think 'dramatic' is a stretch. It is very shiny but so is any cheap lipgloss, that's kind of the point. A rare Mac fail in my opinion. I'd much rather have a Revlon Super Lustrous Gloss (one of the best drugstore lipglosses) or fork out for a Chanel gloss (which are amazing and well worth the spend!).
Batiste XXL Plumping Powder, £3.99, Boots

I was an early adopter of the hair powder. The first one you could really get hold of was from Clynol, and when I found out about it, I literally drove to a salon to get my hands on some, as that's the only place it was sold (sad, I know).
My attitude to it is pretty much 'big hair, don't care'. I love a good beehive and Brigitte Bardot and Barbarella are definitely my hair icons, so a powder that creates an instant backcombed effect and pumps up the roots was always going to be a winner. I've tried several different brands of hair powder since then. I love it before a night out, to perk up my do or as a substitute for dry shampoo if you're travelling light.
Batiste are the dry shampoo queens, so I was eager to try this offering. A little goes a seriously long way, because it becomes like a sticky, fibrous glue in the hair, so although I've seen reviews complaining it made their hair gross, this is the same with all hair powders if you over-use them. A very light sprinkling gives a gorgeous, lifted effect.
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, £4.99, Asda
For ages now, I've been a massive fan of the L'Oreal Skin Perfection Micellar Water and I haven't used any other cleanser since finding it (I've literally abandoned make-up remover wipes, they aren't even in the same league).
So why am I straying now? Well, I couldn't actually find my usual one last time I was hunting in Asda, so I ended up getting this new launch from Garnier instead. I am a big fan of their body lotions so I was hoping this would be good too. The first thing I notice is that you get a lot more for your money - a massive 400ml compared to 200ml on the L'Oreal, so literally double for a pound more.
A micellar water, in case you haven't come across them, is literally a solution of oil particles suspending into a cleansing water, meaning it dissolves makeup and leaves skin beautifully soft into the bargain. It's pretty much a straightforward dupe for the famous Bioderma Sensibio H20, even down to the chunky cap and the big clear bottle.
It works really well and is unscented, so if you haven't tried a micellar water yet, it will be a really good place to start. This is the year micellar goes mainstream!
L'Oreal Studio Line Hot & Smooth, £4.27, Boots
If there's one beauty rule I always stick to, it's that I religiously use a heat protection spray before putting a heated appliance anywhere near my hair. Mine is colour treated (previously bleached for years, and currently dip-dyed) and I do use heated stylers on it almost everyday, so I know I need to show it some love to stop it becoming a wiry mess.
I don't have a favourite and tend to switch back and forth with different brands, but when I saw the Studio Line products have had a bit of a make-over and a freshening up, I had to give it a go. I love the new packaging (magenta and black, so very 80s!) and I do like ones with a trigger spray, because they're just easier to use.
L'Oreal claims this gives a 'three day' straight effect, which would be good, with a 'smooth and polished' finish. It protects hair up to 230C and is 'anti-frizz, anti-humidity', which is essential in the summer.
It did leave my hair feeling softened and the scent and packaging are both great, especially considering its not very expensive. That's important with a heat protection spray because you have to feel like you can be generous with it. I think I will be repurchasing this one!
Tigi Bedhead Self Absorbed Multi-Vitamin Shampoo and Conditioner, £26.25, feelunique.com
I have used this product before but I now find myself coming back to it after vowing to start spending a bit more on my hair and skincare this year. Tigi products always, always deliver. This shampoo and conditioner have a gorgeous, fruity tangerine scent that's really nice and invigorating. They claim a lot of goodies:
- Multi-vitamin formula
- Protects and maintains chemically treated hair
- Improves hair moisture balance
- Improves hair protein balance
- Shiny, voluminous & healthy looking hair
I find them highly moisturising, they really seal in goodness to my hair and make it feel stronger and healthier. They don't weigh the hair down and the scent really lingers long after washing. Well worth the extra spend.

If you've read a few of my recent posts, you'll probably know that I'm in the grip of a bit of an obsession with PVC skirts (damn you, Topshop, you have a lot to answer for!). After weeks of keen attention to Pinterest, I took the plunge and got my very own to wear out on the town!
I was going out for drinks and dancing with my husband and a couple of our friends, Rich and Katie. Sort of in two minds about the whole thing (it definitely takes a lot to pull it off whilst not looking like you're touting for business!), but I decided to take a deep breath -and several shots of vodka- and get on with it.
And you know what? I loved it! Once I got over the fear, I felt really nice in it. The length and shape of the skirt were really flattering on and the whole ensemble was a lot easier to wear that I thought. Again, excuse the wobbly shots in the mirror. I've just bought a tripod to make pictures for this blog a bit easier, but it hasn't arrived yet, so you'll have to put up with my bad photography in the meantime.

I'm glad I was brave enough to try this, its definitely a tick towards my 'not being so vanilla with style' box! Ultimately, like most things, it comes down to what you match it with to make it work for you.

You know when you have that big night out or special occasion coming up, and you want to achieve the sort of luscious Hollywood glow that movie-stars have, only without the Botox/ $600 facial/month-long holiday in Mexico that they have access to?
Well, help is at hand. But its all to do with layering your products. Instead of relying on one pot of wonder to work its magic, using a combination of products can give you the kind of deep-treatment effect you want -quickly and on a budget. Think of it as an at-home, mini spa experience for your skin.
Before an event or even just on the odd random Sunday night, I make some time for this little routine if I want to get my skin looking good:
L'Oreal Skin Perfection Soothing Gel Cream Wash, £2.99, www.boots.com
If you have make-up on, you're going to want to remove it with a good cleanser. But using wipes or even micellar water isn't really enough on its own. You need to make sure that every trace of dirt is gone. So start your at home facial with a good wash.
I love the whole L'Oreal Skin Perfection line, but one of the hero products is this Soothing Gel Cream Wash. It's effective, without being harsh and overly drying. It doesn't contain soap, but it does a great job at lifting dirt and debris, leaving you with a clean finish.
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Facial Pads, £12.95, www.nipandfab.com/shop
Exfoliating your face thoroughly will strip away dulling dead skin cells, unblock pores and maximise the effect of whatever products you apply afterwards, by allowing them to penetrate deeper into the dermis. It's the real secret to success with any facial routine, and will make products work far harder. You can use a physical exfoliant (one with little gritty bits in) or you can use a chemical one (containing some for of AHA), it's just a matter of finding what you prefer.
I'm all for the power of chemicals. A genius product I've been using for a while now are the Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix pads. They're little cotton discs saturated in 2.8% glycolic acid, which helps to retexturise and resurface your skin.
They've also got hyaluronic acid, which is basically a moisture magnet that helps to draw water into the skin, giving a plumped appearance. And they contain blue daisy extract, which is soothing, making sure your skin isn't too aggravated. Wipe one of the pads carefully all over your face and it will really make all the difference to the rest of your skincare.
Sanctuary Warming Charcoal Detox Mask, £11.99, www.boots.com
Follow up with any form of clay based mask will help to draw out all the pore-clogging bad stuff and give your skin a bit of a glow. Use it after your exfoliator for maximum effect- then it can really penetrate the skin and get to work.
This mask is a favourite. It's thermal, so when you rub it on damp skin it warms up, which is especially nice on cold winter days and nights. It contains kaolin clay and charcoal to purify, and it really refines the texture and finish of skin.
I am such a huge, huge fan of these paper sheet masks. When I was on the training course I mentioned the other day, I was banging on about them and people seemed genuinely interested to try and get them. They come from Korea, but you can source them easily - just type 'paper sheet mask' or sometimes 'daiso mask' (they can be named after the type of drugstore, a 'daiso', that they come from in Japan or Korea). They're amazing and so cheap (you can pick up a pack of four for about £2.68).
They come in a huge variety of formulations - from the standard, like aloe vera and my favourite, collagen- to the exotic. I've seen bee venom, snail extract and sheep placenta ones!
They all come in the form of a sheet of thin paper, with holes pre-cut for your eyes, nose and mouth, that are saturated in a gel. Unfold them carefully so they don't rip, and pat the sheet into position. Leave on for as long as you can - I usually try for 20 minutes - and then remove, massaging in the excess gel. They give an amazing radiant, rested glow, especially when you've already taken the steps above.
Try not to do the above when you're expecting visitors...you will look like Ralph Fiennes in The English Patient wearing them, but its totally worth it for the beautiful skin you'll have afterwards!
Garnier Skin Naturals Fresh Essentials Refreshing Toner, £3.15 www.mysupermarket.co.uk
Finally, to close the pores and ensure that you end with a smooth finish, swipe a cotton pad in some toner and over your face before going on to your moisturiser etc. This little extra step just closes the pores and seals in the loveliness, meaning that your skin is ready for what comes next.
I love this Garnier Fresh Essentials Toner because its not one of those super-astringent ones that makes your eyes sting and leaves your pores screaming for mercy. It's really softening and gentle on the skin with a great, gentle green fruit smell.
Spending time on great skincare before your put your make-up on is a little like selecting a great quality canvas to paint on. It can sometimes seem like a step that's easy to skip, because hey, you're covering up anyway, right?
But getting that flawless, movie-star glow lies all in the prep. You can have the best products and brushes, and they will of course, also make a difference, but the true secret to that level of polish is the accumulation. All the little layers of added extras that add up to a big difference.
