TAG - Get to Know Me

Wednesday 12 February 2014

Since launching the blog on social media, I’ve been making all sorts of discoveries of brilliant blogs to follow and gorgeous products, mainly through using diffent hashtags like #bbloggers and #30sbloggers (sneaking in there!). It seems to have opened up a lot of possibilities.

One of the girls I’m following is Katie (@sugarfixx) and she recently did this wonderful post that was a ‘TMI Tag’.

As I previously said, I’ve had a few issues with linking what I do on my blog to who I actually am, and I’ve been a bit shy about using my real identity for all sorts of reasons. But in the interests of opening up, sharing, and turning this blog into a truly social one, I’m going to hop on her tag!

Some of the questions are a bit young for me so the answers may be slightly bizarre… Here we go:

1. What are you wearing?
I’ve just gotten in from work, so I’m wearing what I wore into the office today: a black pencil skirt from Reiss, a black bow blouse from French Connection and a camel v-neck jumper over the top from Toppers (it’s cold here at the moment!), and some black patent ankle boots (Primarni).

2. Ever been in love?
I’m married…I think that hopefully answers that one!

3. Ever had a terrible break-up?
Yes, or certainly ones that seemed terrible at the time. Everything is always the end of the world in your teens. But I couldn’t regret them at all because they led me to the lovely man who is now my husband.

4. How tall are you?
5’7’’, so pretty tall, but not supermodel height! I like my height fine although very high heels make me about 6ft tall!

5. How much do you weigh?
Ouch. Personal! About 140 pounds. People are always surprised if I tell them my weight (which I like to take as a compliment…I guess?!), but like I said, I’m tall. I’m a UK 8-10 but I do weight a lot! I think I have heavy bones!

6. Any tattoos?
None. I change my mind too often about what I like to have anything permanent!

7. Any piercings?
Just the ears. I was well into alternative and rock music when I was a teenager, so I wanted plenty done at the time but I’m too much of a scaredy cat with needles to go through with it.

8. OTP?
Okay, I’ll admit I didn’t have a clue what this meant. And I’m still not sure. The interweb suggests it means ‘one true pairing’ meaning your favourite couple. I’m not sure I have one. Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling in ‘Drive’? I’m confused!

9. Favourite Show?
I love House. It never gets old! I discover something new every time I re-watch it.

10. Favourite bands?
Little Dragon. AlunaGeorge. Indiana. The Deftones. Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. Skream. SBTRKT.

11. Something you miss?
I miss my mum. She lives in Cornwall, which is really far away from where I live, about 300 miles. I don’t get to see her very often, and sometimes that really sucks!

12. Favourite song?
That is soooo hard to answer! How on earth to chose? I can’t narrow it down more than this: ‘The Warmth’ by Incubus is what I want played at my funeral (morbid I know). ‘Inflatable’ by Bush was the first dance song at my wedding. And ‘Wildfire’ by SBTRKT and ‘XXXO’ by M.I.A are my most played songs at the moment!

13. How old are you?
28. Can’t believe it myself, I still feel about 21.

14. Zodiac sign?
Gemini. And I think I match most of the characteristics of one! My birthday is 1st June, same as Marilyn Monroe

15. Quality you look for in a partner?Curiosity. I want someone that likes to try new things, meet new people and be ambitious about moving onwards and upwards.

16. Favourite quote?"Look how black the sky is, the writer said. I made it that way." -Bret Easton Ellis. "Pleasure's a sin, and sometimes sin's a pleasure." -Lord Byron

17. Favourite Actor?
Leonardo DiCaprio. Of course I was madly in love with him when Romeo +Juliet came out (which is still one of my favourite films) but I’m actually much more of a fan of his post-heartthrob phase – films like Inception, Blood Diamond and The Departed have proved his acting chops again and again! I’ll watch anything he’s in.

18. Favourite colour?
Ummm. Not sure, because it depends what it’s for? I think I’m a fan of grey. I like grey jumpers, grey walls in interiors etc. But that sounds really boring! Perhaps pink, if that’s not too girly!

19. Loud music or soft?
L.O.U.D. Turn it up or switch it off.

20. Where do you go when you’re sad?
To bed. Because nothing bad can get you under the covers, right?

21. How long does it take you to shower?About 20 minutes, depending on if I’m washing my hair or not.

22. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
An hour. 15 for the shower (with no hair wash), 15 minutes to get dressed and pack my bag, 10 minutes for hair, and 20 for make-up. I might possibly be a little high maintenance.

23. Ever been in a physical fight?
No. And the thought doesn’t appeal!

24. Turn on?
Red lipstick. Macaroons. Champagne. Bubble baths (Marie Antoinette, basically!). Specifically in a man? Knowledge and authority.

25. Turn off?
Cold. Cold is never sexy! Maths. Socks with holes in!

26. The reason I joined YouTube?
I don’t post on YouTube but I joined mainly to watch make-up tutorials, which I do in spades.

27. Fears?
All the usual ones! I’m not keen on spiders. Lately, I worry a fair bit about becoming a mother, because that’s probably the next step for me and I have all sorts of fears about hospital and childbirth!

28. Last thing that made you cry?
I can’t recall. I haven’t been majorly upset for a while, which is good.

29. Last time you said you loved someone?
The other day to my husband. I tell him every day. I’m sort of superstitious about it!

30. Meaning behind your YouTube name? There’s no meaning behind it. Its just a word I thought sounded cool ‘ElectricLove’ and some numbers. My blog name is a bit more interesting. I’ve actually renamed it three times. It started life as ‘All The Little Pieces’, but I got annoyed with that because the address was already claimed- so the one I had didn’t match the title of the blog. Then I redesigned it and renamed it ‘White Hot Noise’ but I never really took to that. Finally, I thought it would be better if I cut to the chase and said what the blog was really about, which is basically all the shallow, fun, shiny things in the world that put a smile on my face. So, it’s now ‘Seriously Shallow’ – because I’m serious about this stuff, even though it seems trivial!

31. Last book you read?
‘Young Romantics’ by Daisy Hay. It’s a ‘group biography’ of some of the romantic poets such as Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary Shelley and how all their fates were intertwined. A good read if you like history and English Literature.

32. The book you’re currently reading?
‘Helen of Troy’ by Bettany Hughes. It’s an examination of the Mycenaean culture and their myths and times. I love social history at the moment and what I’m reading is generally either a history book or a biography.

33. Last show you watched?
‘Family Guy’ – it tends to be what I watch in bed just before I fall asleep!

34. Last person you talked to?
Probably a colleague!

35. The relationship between you and the last person you texted?
The last person I texted was actually a club promoter. Don’t know them personally.

36. Favourite food?
I love Peking Duck with the little pancakes and hoisin sauce. Super delicious.

37. Place you want to visit?
I would love to go to Venice. Also Iceland to go in the hot springs and see the northern lights.

38. Last place you were?
At work – not very exciting! I live and work in Nottingham. But my friends and family live all over so I'm always up and down the motorway visiting.Cornwall, London, Manchester and Cambridge are my usual destinations.

39. Do you have a crush?
I don’t think I’m allowed to answer that one! If it can be someone famous...I like an actor called Aneurin Barnard (he was in The White Queen and Moonfleet). Or Johnathan Rhys-Meyers. Seems I go for Welsh boys!

40. Last time you kissed someone?
My husband, Sebastian, this morning.

41. Last time you were insulted?
It was quite a while now, but I was doing a ‘reverse mentoring’ scheme, where you’re paired up with a business bigshot to give them some fresh insights from the ground level. The director I was working with arranged for me to meet one of his managers and she just plain didn’t turn up. I was sitting around for half an hour and she never contacted me to apologise. I found that unspeakably rude, especially since I was giving up time out of my busy day to do something voluntary!

42. Favourite flavour of sweet?
I love rose water Turkish delight, or salted caramels.

43. What instruments do you play?
None, sadly. I’ve never learnt but I wish I could. I’d love to be able to play the piano. Is it too late for lessons?

44. Favourite piece of jewellery?
I suppose I should say my wedding and engagement rings. They’re really simple, emerald cut diamonds on a platinum band. If it comes to jewellery I’ve bought myself, I’m obsessed with my rose gold boyfriend watch from Michael Kors. I wear it with everything!

45. Last sport you played?I don’t play any sport, but I do run home from work, so I’m focusing on running at the moment. It’s making me feel so much better in myself and really boosting my energy levels, although I don’t always enjoy it at the time. At university I was big into fencing. I've always planned to pick it back up but don't want to make the time committment!

46. Last song you sang?
‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ by Drake, while I was on the dancefloor at the weekend, pretty sure I was singing along!

47. Favourite chat up line?
I have a horror of chat up lines. They’re so insincere. Would much prefer just having a normal conversation.

48. Have you ever used it?
Certainly not!

49. Last time you hung out with anyone?
On Wednesday night - hung out with four good friends, we went out for some food and a few drinks and then went to see Indiana play (she was amazing)

50. Who should answer these questions next?
Anyone using the #bbloggers or #30sbloggers tag!
