Trinny London makeup review

New season, new makeup. It's always at this summery time of year I start to crave a bit of simplicity. Perhaps it's just that I begin to think ahead and plan my holidays and how to pack light, but reassessing and streamlining my beauty routine is always top of the agenda right about now.

This time, I've revisited and updated an old favourite. In the Trinny London T-Stack I discovered a whole new way to think about my morning makeup routine. Everything is designed around simple, seamless melt-in cream formulas. The products are designed to be quickly swiped on and pack a punch without being complex to apply. This is vastly appealing to a working mum with small kids who wants to look polished in the minimum amount of time.

Now that travel is back on the menu, and I have a job that requires some international work, it's also ideal to find products that are easily portable and fuss-free.

The formulas and shade range are great, and everything comes in pots that snap together into an ultra-portable, customised stack.

You can literally do your whole face with a few swipes and then pop the little stack in your bag for touch ups without it taking up lots of room.

I've played around with a few of the products and it was time to refresh my stack, refine the products in it and produce an edit that covers all of my daily needs for the ultimate grab and go face.

Trinny London review

Trinny's theory is that less is more when it comes to foundation, and I tend to agree with that for everyday makeup. I tried and liked the Trinny London BFF Cream (sort of like a tinted moisturiser with skin goodies), but it is expensive. Great alternatives, for me, are the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream or the Beauty Pie All In Wonder Illuminating Primer, which is more of a base than the name suggests. It evens everything out and gives a beautiful glow - the only thing it's missing is SPF, which I can apply separately.

Trinny London Just A Touch review

I then added Trinny London Just A Touch in the shade 'Alison' to my stack. Just A Touch is a hybrid foundation and concealer products designed to be dabbed on only on those areas where you need a little extra help - in my case under the eyes, at the sides of my nose and on a patch of my cheek where I have a little melasma. It's lightweight and yet pigment rich. Used sparingly, it blends in to give a perfected appearance that never looks heavy, because it's only used in the areas you need it, rather than all over the face. It also contains Physalis Angulata to promote collagen production.

Another pot of Trinny London Miracle Blur was also on my list. A cult product, this little pot of magic regularly sells out and put the brand on the map. Described as a 'lip and line filler', it's a clear balm that instantly disguises fine lines, pores and uneven skin texture, providing a plumped and perfected finish.  The formula is also packed with skin-loving goodies collagen, elastin and vitamins C and E. You can use it over or under makeup, but I like to take a small amount on my finger and press into my forehead, around my eyes and onto my lips after using my base cream and the Just A Touch where needed.  I've tried out quite a few less pricey products promising to do a similar thing but I have to say that Miracle Blur just works better and holds its effect much longer. As with all the Trinny products, a little really does go a long way so the 4g pot lasts a few months.

Trinny London review

Trinny London Cheekbones is the brand's recently launched contour product. As someone who looks like a potato if they don't add in a bit of dimension, I do contour everyday, but I look for products that allow me to swipe them on and blend out quickly, so it's a swift job. I went for 'Serena', which is a neutral mid-tone designed to mimic natural shadows on the face. The formula is typically easy to blend and effortlessly sculpts the cheeks and jawline.

Also, I couldn't resist adding to my order a couple of shades of the Eye2Eye. I restocked on 'Virtue', which is a flattering champagne nude shot through with rich gold shimmer. This shade is the perfect daytime lid shade, gently waking up tired eyes with a subtle sheen. I also like it as a highlighter if I'm in the mood for an extra glow. 'Emperor' is a deep burgundy brown. It works well either as a liner or to create a stronger eye look for night. The shades are very buildable so it's easy to create a range of looks.

I also picked up the Trinny London Lip2Cheek in 'Lady J'. This is a shade I ummed and ahhed over last time I ordered, but didn't go for. A multitasking lip and cheek hero, this shade is a soft, neutral peach ideal for an understated look. Creamy and easy to blend, the formula also has good staying power. I don’t love the formula as much on the lips as the ‘Lip Luxe’ range but it is a better multitasker. I tend to add a tinted balm on top as the texture dries out quickly on lips after a few minutes.

While I was there, I added on a couple of accessories. The T-Top Stackable Mirror is a really useful addition for travel or when you're out and about. It clips onto the top of your stack, and has one side magnified. Despite being quite small, it's such a clear, powerful mirror and very useful.

I also got the T-Kit, which is three stackable brushes. All the products apply beautifully with your fingertips, but for some jobs, like eyeliner, you do need a bit of precision. There's a lip brush, a small domed brush and a slanted brush, so all the trickiest details are covered.

The Elizabeth bag is something I've also wanted for a while. A small pouch in bright yellow saffiano with the silver Trinny branding on, it holds a stack of six pots, my T-Kit brush and also fits a couple of other items but is really compact. I can throw in my stack and my brush set, add a little perfume atomiser and literally have all I need to touch up.

All of these products make getting ready quickly in the morning an absolute breeze. They truly are designed to work on the go - from topping up in the back of a taxi to being able to pop a stack in your weekend bag and go. The quality of the formulas and the sheer ease of use are amazing.

All I would add to my makeup bag alongside this selection would be my tinted moisturiser, some powder, a brow pencil, a lip liner and a setting spray to cover all the bases.

And if I was going away, I'd simply click on Trinny London Lip2Cheek in Rossy to give me a red lip option as well.

Customisable, high-performance cosmetics in a snap - that's definitely smart makeup for 2022 and beyond.
