OOTD : Blush Lace & Brides

Monday 28 August 2017

A very special outfit of the day today, this is what I wore to my mother-in-laws wedding.

Knowing what to wear as a wedding guest can be such a minefield as there are so many factors to take into account – type of service, venue, weather  and more.

So whenever I’m lucky enough to be invited to someone’s big day, I always try and share what I decided on, usually after a lot of ideas-gathering on Pinterest and fashion blogs!

Like a lot of people, my default reaction is to look for a dress, but I decided that choosing a pencil skirt and camisole would be a much more versatile option.

Usually, if I’ve worn a dress to someone’s wedding, I won’t wear it again – which isn’t very cost effective. With separates, you can team with other items and get plenty more mileage.

This outfit is quite girly and delicate for me, as I usually favour really clean, minimalist styles, but it seemed perfect for a wonderful day at Bridgford Hall.

My mother-in-law is a really special lady and one of my favourite people in the world, so it was a beautiful day helping her to celebrate.

Blush lace pencil skirt | Lipsy
Cream satin button-up camisole | Viport
Nude snakeskin low wedge sandal| Dune
‘Waverley Petite’ Breton stripe clutch | Stella and Dot
‘Empress Rings’ necklace | Mestige
Pave triangle ear climbers | Stella and Dot

Choosing this blush coloured lacy pencil skirt isn’t my usual MO, but its really nice for a special occasion. I would dress this down with a boyfriend tee and a black leather jacket for other occasions to spike the pink frothiness of it a bit.

For the wedding, I chose to pair it with a very simple white button-up cami -  a bit of a classic combination. I love to wear pencil skirts as they’re such a flattering shape on most people and help to create more of an hourglass shape (especially paired with a decent pair of Spanx!).

Go with everything nude pumps were a classic footwear choice. I very rarely wear heels but a wedding is one of those occasions where you just have to go for it (and stash some folding flats away in your bag!)

To add a bit of contrast, I chose to carry a blue striped clutch with nude leather edging. I liked the effect of the Breton pattern against the pink lace, it just added a bit of contrast to quite a classic outfit.

Accessories are a great way to add a special touch too, so I popped on these delicate, super-sparkly ear climbers. I wore my hair up to show them off, which I very rarely do! I love geometric shapes in jewellery.

A simple necklace with sparkly Swarovski crystals paired well with the ear climbers - it's delicate and understated but a bit shiny as well!

I turned to my favourite products for creating a polished natural makeup look for the day.

First, a good dab of Hylamide HA Blur Prismatic Skin Finisher - I am so obsessed with this primer at the moment. Next, the eyes - first some of the Urban Decay Primer Potion to make the colour stay, then I created a soft smoke, all using shades from the Too Faced Natural Mattes palette.

For my base, I used Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation for its impressive staying power, followed by Tarte Shape Tape concealer.

I added some of the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer, then defined my brows with the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade and a little Benefit High Brow to Sculpt.

For lashes, I popped on some L'Oreal Paradise Exatic mascara, which is a new discovery that I'm really loving, and some Kiss lashes for extra impact.

I finished with some LA Girl Glazed Lip Shine in 'Elude' - this was one of the great products I discovered at the CaBella Makeup Masterclass I was recently invited to - and a dab of Glo & Ray Wonderland gloss in the ultra-glittery shade Flamingo Dance to add sparkle.

We had such a magic time getting together to celebrate the big day, although Theodore was a typical toddler and decided to have an absolute meltdown just as the ceremony was about to begin, so I had to carry him outside and missed the vows and the reading I was supposed to be giving!

The ceremony was unfortunately at his usual nap time and he'd foiled our attempts to trick him in to an earlier nap. I'm sure every parent of a toddler can relate!

These things happen though, and we all had fun celebrating with a garden party afterwards, where Theo and his cousins loved patting the cows who come right up to the hedge at the end of their Granny's garden.

The sun shone all day (which is almost unheard of for a British Bank Holiday!) and we had a gorgeous time celebrating as a family.
