OOTN | Black Out | Mamas & Martinis

What’s your after-dark style like?

I think most people have a go-to thing for their night time ensembles, whether it’s a femme fatale dress or a sequinned clutch that just makes them feel put together.

For me, I love a bit of leather (oh goodness, that sounds so wrong, but you know what I mean….). Leather makes me feel pulled together, smart and a bit edgy. One of my favourite evening outfits for the colder months is always leather trousers.

They’re warm (I am not about freezing on a night out at my advanced age. I even take a coat out with me and everything!) and they look dressed up.

They’re one of the staple pieces in my wardrobe and have been for several years after finally convincing myself it didn’t have to end for me like it did for Ross from Friends when he gave them a go. I like them for day as well, dressed down with Converse and a grey sweater. Perfection.

These ones are especially nice because they have moto detailing with the ribbed knees and two zipped pockets on the hips.

Perhaps it’s the time of year with the dark winter nights but I was definitely feeling an all-black vibe for my evening. Its definitely my favourite colour to wear – to me, it feels powerful, confident and sleek. I even have a Pinterest board called ‘All Black Everything’ dedicated to inky ensembles!

Black boucle tweed jacket | Great Plains
Black ankle boots withave clear perspex heel | Aldo
‘So Black’ classic flap bag | Chanel

I paired the trousers with this beautiful eyelash lace top. It was one of those pieces I literally had to buy when I saw it. The mix of textures is very cool, with the lace and the polka dot mesh. I really love the high neck and the bustier detail. This top also works really well for day layered over a plain long-sleeved tee.

On top, I wore my black boucle biker jacket. This is such a great piece – the structure and cut are beautiful and the material has all these subtle little copper flecks in that makes it pop. I always get compliments when I wear this jacket out.

Keeping the all-black theme going, I added in my beloved Chanel So Black bag. This bag is so well loved. I really like the matte black hardware as it makes the bag a whole lot less ‘shouty’ and the caviar leather really pops.

It’s so beautiful, and using it immediately puts me in the mood to go out and enjoy myself! I also love that I can lengthen the strap and use it cross-body if I want to hit the dancefloor.

On my feet, I went with my favourite ankle boots. I own far too many pairs of black ankle boots to be honest, but I do wear them all the time. I have shown this pair in an outfit post before, and I wear them all the time. The perspex heel looks amazing and they're surprisingly comfortable even though they're quite high.

I wore this for an evening out with my mama friends. We went for some dinner, martinis and a bit of a dance to Funkified. That kind of music isn't usually my cup of tea but I actually ended up having a great time.

So good in fact, we actually ended up walking out without paying the bill! Don't worry though, we made sure we called to settle up the next morning...
