Collaboration: Let's Get Naked

Monday 22 September 2014

Super excited to be bringing to you today my second collaboration post with two of my best blogging friends and all-round lovely ladies, Sonya of OnceUponAGlam and Kerry of KerryJustBeauty

Last time, we did a post on three ways to wear magenta lips, which you can see here, but this time….we’re all getting naked. Come on, you know you want to see that…right?

Well, before you start panicking and running for the hills, we’re actually talking about the famous and much loved Urban Decay Naked palettes, all three of them! We’ll each be doing a tutorial look featuring one of the palettes.

Kerry's showing you how to smoulder with UD1, I'm on 2 and Sonya had created a gorgeous look with 3. The point of this post is really to show how versatile these palettes are, you can create so many different looks and something that will go with almost any lip look!

So let’s get started on Two…

All three palettes are absolute classics. One features warm, brown based neutrals with more shimmer, Two has cooler, taupe tones and Three is rose-hued. All of them are very wearable, very high quality, and if you haven’t got at least one in your collection…what are you doing with your life?

As the shades in N2 are very sophisticated and perhaps less bright than the other two, I decided to create a look I’m calling ‘Naked Uptown’.

The perfect mix of neutral and smoke, this is the look for you if you want eye make-up that will take you from desk to dinner to dance floor. We’ll be using a mix of tones from the palette to get this look.

1. Prime

First of all, primer is your best friend for any complex eye look. So I swiped on a base of Absolute New York Perfecting Eyeshadow Primer to get things started.

2. Lids and Brow Bone

We’re going to start with a wash of the flesh coloured matte shade ‘Foxy’ across the whole lid and up to the brow bone, using the fluffy shadow brush from Real Techniques.

3. Crease

‘Tease’ is such a perfect crease colour, I’ve never found a better one. It’s a taupe with a lot of pinky, purply undertones that goes with cool and warm shadows alike - a real hero shade. Taking the Elf Crease Brush, run this shade into the hollows of your sockets, using a back and forth motion.

4.Inner Corner and Mid Lid

To give this look a bright, shimmering finish that will work for day or night, let’s hit up some metallics. Take the shade ‘Verve’, a beautiful oyster satin colour onto a densely-packed shadow brush and work it into the mid lid – I’m using the shadow brush from Teez Cosmetics. Then take a finer brush, like the detailing brush from Real Techniques and trace around the inner corners too.

5. Outer Lid

Time to start deepening up the look. Take the shade ‘Pistol’, a gorgeous pewter shade and pack it onto the outer mid section of your lid. I used the brush that came with the palette to add this shade in.

6. Outer V

Making an almond shape, take some of the shade ‘Blackout’ and blend upwards and outwards into the outer corner of your lids. This will give the look some extra impact, and a sultry twist.

7. Lower Lash Line

Taking a liner brush, add some of the shade ‘Busted’ along your lower lashline. This step will make your eyes sparkle, and its an especially good colour to complement your look, whether you have brown, blue, green or grey eyes – it’s a catch all shade.

8. Add Liner

A dramatic look would be nothing without liner! To get a sharp, slightly winged shape, I used W7 Walk the Line liquid liner, brushed onto a slanted Mac eyeliner brush to get a crisp finish. Under the lashes, I used a swipe of Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in ‘Crave’ to add more depth.

10.Lashes

I finished my lashes off with a helping of Bourjois 1 Seconde mascara and a pair of my favourite feathery falsies from Amazing Shine.

And there we have it, ‘Naked Uptown’, a chic combination of neutrals and smoke that would carry you through most occasions. What a classic!
