TAG: Shine On!

Tuesday 11 March 2014

I was tagged by gorgeous Jess of Pretty ChitChat, a blog I’m really enjoying, for the Shine On post.

The rules go something like this:

  •  You must display the Shine On Award logo in your blog post
  •     You must acknowledge the blogger who nominated you within your post and include a link to their blog
  •     You must share 7 random and interesting facts about yourself
  •     You must nominate 15 bloggers that you adore and think deserve the award, linking their blog in your post
  •     You must contact your chosen bloggers to let them know that they’ve been nominated.
I thought this post was a really good way to discover other blogs for one (I’m always keen to discover new ones, especially smaller bloggers who tend to be more personal).  So, here goes with the random facts:

1. I’ve been writing a novel for a few years now. I did a degree in English Lit, so it seems to be the law that you have to write one. I even had some interest from publishers at one stage, but sadly work took over and I dropped it. I am hoping to start work on it again soon, even if it doesn’t come to anything other than being able to say I finished it.

2. I met my husband on a bus. It was a bit of a random twist of fate. He lived in the next village on from me, and we knew people in common, but had never met each other. I spotted him at a club one night and wanted to say hello but was too shy. Then I got on the night bus home and there he was! We had a really awkward conversation, but thanks to his friend Luke bullying him into it, he took my number before I got off the bus and the rest, as they say, is history! And Luke was best man at our wedding.

3. I’m an only child. I really hate it when people assume that means you are spoilt. If anything, I’d only say that it made me good at talking to adults from a young age. I’m also quite conflict-avoidant, perhaps because I never had anyone to argue with when I was younger. I think I’m also quite non-competitive, because I never had to compete for my parent’s affection. But I’ve always been hard-working, I hope. Obviously I had plenty of cousins and friends to grow up with anyone.  I don’t think it’s a bad thing and I find it a bit sad that certain people can be quite judgemental about it when they have no idea of the circumstances involved.

4. I’m really phobic about body hair. So much so that I can’t get waxes because I can’t deal with the regrowth phase. Got to be smooth!

5. I’m a magazine addict. I read at least four or five a week and it costs me a fortune! I’ve set up a magazine swap with one of my colleagues at work because we both have the same problem. My favouites are Vogue, Grazia (the bible!) and Look.

6. I have really schizophrenic taste in music. I have really distinct likes but they are very different! I like opera and some classical (Verdi, Puccini), some rock (Deftones, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metallica) and a fair bit of dubstep and electro (SpectraSoul, Emalkay, Redlight). So I never know what’s going to come up next on my iPod!

7. I have really low blood pressure. If I get out of bed too quickly in the morning or have a really hot bath and then go out into the cold, I usually black out and faint. At least it gives me an excuse for taking ages to get up in the morning!
