Birchbox March 2018 | Review

Saturday 17 March 2018

“Be present, not perfect” is the signature theme of the March edition of Birchbox, and really, couldn't we all use a little mindfulness in our hectic lives?

The importance of me time is something that has really trended over the past year, with more of us turning to simple rituals of self-care to stave off the epidemic of loneliness, anxiety and burn out that seems to be the disease of our age.

It's a seductive concept, and purveyors of beauty products and health foods alike have jumped onto the bandwagon. Personally, I've never needed any encouragement for pampering myself, and I was intrigued to see what this months box had in store to get me in touch with my inner zen…

First up, Baija Gommage Festin Royal Body Scrub in the seriously delicious Caramelised Honey. Now, this is a brand I am slowly growing to adore, after receiving one of their body lotions in another box that smelt out of this world good.

There's nothing I like more than a great exfoliant - they make the skin feel heavenly and give me a glow. I usually have a coffee one on the go that I used a couple of times a week, and although I love them, they are sooo messy. You could never use one in the bath, it's strictly a shower affair only, so this could be the perfect alternative for bath night. Packed full of honey and shea butter, this has all the right ingredients to deliver silky smooth limbs and that incredible scent?! This is one beautiful discovery.

Next, the item that made me sign back up - Benefit Bad Gal Bang Volumizing Mascara. Although I have never fallen for any of the brands lash potions before (I seriously do not get the hype around They're Real at all!), I'm prepared to give them another chance here. Volume is my main goal when it comes to my lashes and that is exactly what this new launch promises.

The new sell is that this formula contains aero particles, normally found in astronauts space suits. This is meant to deliver serious volume and lift while also being light as a feather. Is it a gimmick? Does it really work? I'm looking forward to finding out. The brush is a tapered silicone one that will supposedly catch and define even the smallest lashes for a fanned out effect. It's quite different from my usual favorites, but it's good to try new things!

Another exciting product, the Blaq Peel Off Mask is another win for me. Who doesn't love a peel-off mask? Soooo satisfying! This one uses charcoal to draw out toxins, purify the skin and sort out any blemishes and clogged pores. It sounds like just what I need at the moment, as my crazy pregnancy hormones are causing me so many breakouts right now. I can't wait to pop this on in the bath!

R+Co Badlands Dry Shampoo Paste is a product I've never come across before, even though I'm a total dry shampoo addict. So I'm intrigued by this. Formulated with Hawaiian Volcanic Ash to keep your scalp clean and coconut and sunflower seed oil to condition and add shine, this should be a quick route to refreshes second-day hair and the volumized, bedhead look if you so want it. I love the fact that this is something completely new!

Finally, the Lumene Valo Glow Boost Essence is another product I can't wait to try. I adore anything that gives skin a glow, and as this little beauty is packed with brightening technology, the powerful antioxidant Vitamin C and plumping Hyaluronic Acid it should deliver just that.

This months box really delivered for me - I love all of the products! It's been a while since I got a totally kick ass sub box, so I'm really pleased with this one.  A great selection of treats for self-care.
