My Guide to Becoming a Makeup Pro

Thursday 8 October 2015

It seems makeup is all over the place lately. Not only do we watch TV adverts showing us how we can create a flawless look, there’s Pinterest and Instagram to make us feel inadequate when it comes to our makeup skills. Some of the looks on there are insane!

Even more so when you realise the hashtag ‘no filter’ has been used - how?

It must be some form of witchcraft! In this guide, we’ll talk about how you can become a bit of a makeup pro and impress people with your skills. Take a look...

Watch Every YouTube Video You Can Find

YouTube is an absolute godsend to ladies who want to get better at their makeup. There are a ton of videos you can choose from, so whatever you’re struggling with, you can find it.

Whether you want to be able to create the perfect natural brow or smoky eye, it’s on there. There are even tutorials for beautiful overall makeup looks. Watch them all and copy along to see how you get on.

Many of these girls in the videos are just like you and me, and started exactly how you are now. They are not professionals by any means, but you can see how far they’ve come!

Invest in Good Makeup and Tools

Good makeup and tools will help your looks to appear flawless, and you won’t need to put half as much effort into them.

Don’t get me wrong; you can still create a good makeup look with cheap makeup and tools. It’ll just take more practice and patience. You’ll need to really get to know products and how they work to get that flawless finish you’re after.

If you're looking for an affordable range of really high quality brushes, you can't go far wrong with the Real Techniques range - a line started by a couple of YouTube stars.

Practice Makes Perfect

Practice really does make perfect, especially when it comes to doing your makeup. Practice something every day until you get the hang of it, and then move on.

You’ll no doubt find your own ways of doing things and put your own spin on techniques, but that’s what it’s all about!

Practice on Other People Too

It’s all well and good knowing your own face, but if you really want to be a makeup pro, you should practice on other people too. Then you can learn about other skin types, and how certain products look on other people. You’ll get a lot of insight and learn so much just from doing this.

Take a Lesson

If you’re serious about becoming a makeup pro, why not take a professional lesson? There are so many workshops and makeup courses you could do. You’ll learn a lot and will even get some 1-2-1 attention so that you can improve quickly.

Read Books

There are plenty of books written on makeup, so settle down with one or two and see what you can learn. You’ll learn some very interesting things from some of the biggest names in the makeup industry.

If you’re serious about becoming a whizz with makeup, start using these tips now. The sooner the start and the more you practice, the better you’ll be.
