OOTD: Pregnant Wedding Guest ft ASOS Maternity

Monday 7 September 2015

Outfit of the day posts have been pretty much non-existent since I became pregnant - mainly because I've been basically living out of the same few pairs of maternity leggings, loose vest tops and stretchy dresses for the past few months!

I've also been staying home much more, so there hasn't really been much occasion to dress up.

This weekend was my sister in law's wedding though, so I had to up my game! I'm currently 9 months pregnant and overdue to have my baby. It is extremely difficult to feel glamorous at this point.

I'm the size of a house, massively uncomfortable and more than a bit fed up. But I felt I needed to share this, just in case there is anyone else out there who's going to be a pregnant wedding guest and hasn't got a clue what to wear!

I will admit to having several meltdowns before settling on at outfit that I felt comfortable and appropriate in.

Navy digital floral print dress - Asos Maternity
Cream tweed jacket - H&M Conscious Collection
Perspex floral necklace - eBay
Blush suede kitten heels - LK Bennett
Butterfly box clutch bag - Ted Baker

This dress was a really good choice in the end - Asos seem to be one of the few brands out there that know how to produce great maternity occasion wear that's reasonably priced and trend led, while suiting a pregnant body.

This was made of a heavy stretch material that was both flattering and comfortable as well - no mean feat at this stage. The bold digital blooms provided some subtle contouring and a bit of a visual effect that (sort of) minimised my massive bump as well, or at least didn't make me feel irretrievably huge.

The jacket from H&M's Conscious Collection smartened things up for church. It has a fluoro green thread running through the weave that matched to the tones on the print of the dress as well. It added some structure to the look (and covered my arms up where I felt a bit self-conscious) but isn't too tight and restrictive, so I could get away with it even though its not maternity wear.

This necklace has been shown before on here a couple of times, but I couldn't help myself, I love it so much. It gives any outfit an instant wow factor because its so bold, and drew the attention upwards away from my swollen tummy. It was a total eBay bargain and cost about £6, but I've worn it so much.

Heels are completely out of the question at the moment. I did think about it for about two seconds, but its just not a good idea at this size! These very demure blush pink suede numbers from LK Bennett are comfortable, but the pale colour and pointed toe still elongate the legs a little bit. I love pointy flats as they look more formal and dressed up.

I actually bought these to wear at my own wedding, but I ended up getting some bridal shoes included with my dress from the boutique I bought it at, so I never wore them in the end. At least they got an airing here!

My bag aimed for a print clash - I used this gorgeous hard-sided box clutch with a vivid butterfly print from Ted Baker. There's a chunky gold chain strap that you can also use if you want to go hands free.

I think it worked well because there were a couple of similar colours in the prints, and they were at different scales. The plain expanse of the jacket also broke the total outfit up a bit.

Seb, 'bump' and I at the wedding - 5 days overdue to give birth

And that was my compromise outfit! I never wanted to be hugely pregnant at this wedding, so I had to try and style it out as best I could.

It was a lovely day though and the main thing is that we were able to celebrate with family.I was so pleased that we could actually be there on the day, as we had no way of knowing if we'd be able to make it.

It was a beautiful day, full of love, and although I was a bit sad our little man missed out on being there, it might not have been possible to go with a baby just a few days old and me in a state directly after giving birth, so perhaps it was a blessing in disguise!
