OOTD: Surprise Surprise

Monday 7 July 2014

Almost didn't do an outfit post to show what I wore on Saturday, as my outfit was a little bit on the 'safe' side and wasn't especially well thought out -but then I thought, oh what the heck! After all, I'm a normal person that sometimes goes for comfort over style - guilty as charged!

Saturday was the surprise 30th birthday of our good friend Richard. His lovely girlfriend Kati organised it. We were all meeting in town at The Living Room for some drinks and celebrations.

I'm not feeling hugely body confident and I have been recovering from a cold all week, so I decided to go for slimming and comforting all black -  that's always in style, right? Also, I confess I totally couldn't be bothered with heels and went for flat shoes!

Black mesh leotard - Missguided
Black leather panel mini - Reiss
Grey cut out front laced sandals- Fashion Union
Black velvet quilted snake chain bag - Topshop
White ceramic and rose gold watch - Breda

The skirt is a old favourite of mine- it goes with everything and it's also supremely comfortable and just so easy to throw on.

This time, I paired the skirt with a mesh-panel leotard for a streamlined look. To make the leotard less revealing, I wear a seamless body control leotard from M&S underneath. This also helps to keep everything in place and strapped down -  essential for those days when you're feeling a bit bloated.

I chose flats for a few reasons. I wasn't feeling on top form and just couldn't be bothered with heels.

We were also planning to walk into town, which is a good 30 minutes.

Lastly, with the leather mini and the mesh leotard, I felt heels might have been a bit too much- wearing flats gave it a more casual vibe.

These grey cut out gladiators are dressy enough to pass but also quite utilitarian.

Then I just added a favourite watch and this neat little bag that I picked up in the Topshop January sales.

My hair and make-up were done for the #MadAboutMagenta challenge I did with fellow bloggers Kerry and Sonya (read all about that here) - I loved the shocking pink, which is Maybelline ColourSensational Vivids in 'Fuschia Flash'. Take a look at the full post for details on the make-up look

Here's a few pics from the night;

  1. I could never walk for 30 minutes in heels. Flats were a wise choice.

    You looked fabulous!

  2. Haha, thanks Caroline - my husband is cruel and refuses to spend money on a tazi - we walked home as well! So yeah, flats were the only real choice! I was feeling really lazy about wearing heels, I'm in a flat shoe phase at the moment! Thank you for your kind words. I felt quite bloated and horrid so you've cheered me up! xx
