The Italian Style Diaries | Florence

Wednesday 18 September 2019

Easy breezy is my motto when it comes to vacation style. Life is so crazy busy at home that when I’m away, I prefer to give my brain a rest, and that includes matching separates!

One pieces come into their own for the chuck-on-and-forget factor, and I plan every outfit in advance so that I don’t even have to think about what shoes to put with it. Laziness can be chic occasionally, right?

One of the major things we wanted to tick off on our Italian escape was a visit to Florence, a city that has long fascinated us with its staggering cultural and economic legacy.

I was so excited to tread in the footsteps of the Medici and immerse myself in the history and the artistic heritage of this beautiful place

This lightweight cotton jumpsuit was the perfect combination of easy to wear, stylish and practical for a hot day spent strolling around a city.

The print really caught my eye and although I don’t usually wear red, I was drawn to this due to the fit and the draped, cut out back. The ideal piece to dress up with heels for drinks or pair with flat sandals on vacation – it would even look great layered with a thin black polo neck as we transition into autumn.

This fabulous pair of sandals has the hallmark of M&S footwear – comfort. It might make me an impossible grandma but I really don’t care as sore feet make me miserable!

I knew we’d be walking around exploring the city by foot all day, so they had to be able to stand up to that, and they did beautifully. I love the monochrome striped straps and rusty coloured tassels – proof that great design doesn’t have to cause blisters.

Headbands are a sartorial trend that I’ve really embraced lately and this striped bee print one was worn a lot on my holidays. I love the silky fabric and knotted design, it just lifts any outfit.

Some simple black shades and my favourite versatile cross body bag were all that were needed, and I could stroll off into the Florentine sunset…
