Look Fantastic Birthday Edition | Review

Saturday 15 September 2018

Anyone for a slice of cake? It's the birthday box edition from LookFantastic, and the goodies inside definitely put me in the mood to celebrate!

Out of all the beauty subscription boxes, LF seem to be the most consistent in their delivery of exciting, varied products that make you look forward to the postie arriving, yet they aren't as well known as some of their rivals. That really deserves to change!

Now celebrating their 4th birthday this month’s box featured six products as a treat to subscribers and definitely made me want to party…

Philip Kingsley Elacticizer

This highly-regarded hair treat isn't exactly a new kid on the block, but it's a product that has been enduringly popular for very good reason - it delivers serious results.

Developed by a renowned trichologist (that is, a hair doctor, to you and I), you pop the treatment on prior to shampooing. It works hard to improve stressed out, frazzled, damaged locks, making them smooth, strong and shiny.

Basically, it's a bit of an essential if you colour your hair or use heated styling tools or even swim a lot, as it's highly effective at correcting damage. I've used it several times and it's become a bit of a bath night essential to me, a regular treatment to keep my hair in decent condition - and it works amazingly well!

Omorovicza Ultramoor Mud Mask

I've been dying to try something from this cult favourite Hungarian skincare brand for a while, so it put a smile on my face to see it in the birthday box!

This mask detoxes, cleanses and revives stressed out city skin and redefines the facial contours. It has a great lifting and tightening effect which makes it the ideal pre-party treatment for skin that needs a shot of energy.

Pure luxury and a lovely product to have for special occasions.

Eve Lom Cleanser

This cleanser is a beauty heavyweight with no end of celebrities and glossy magazines singing its praises, but it's something I've never tried.

It's a creamy balm that dissolves even waterproof makeup while being ultra-gentle and nourishing on the skin. Massage it in and buff it off with a warm damp muslin cloth and you're left with clean, glowing skin that practically sparkles. It's a legendary product for a reason.

Mane N Tail Original Hoof Maker Hand & Nail Cream

Pregnancy has left me with quite dry skin and in particular my hands, so I was interested to try out this deep moisturising cream.

I believe the brand started life as an actual equestrian product. Someone must have used it on their hair (how you get that idea, goodness knows) and realised it did great things. It gained a following and now they must have expanded into body products too.

I don't like greasy formulas, so the fact this is light and easily absorbed is great. It's also strengthened my nails and even worked it's magic on my cracked heels. It's a pretty great product to have as we head into the colder months.

Lord & Berry Strobing Pencil

Strobing has been a beauty mega-trend over the past few years, and I've seen powders, liquids, sticks and creams - but never a pencil.

This was perhaps the only product this month I wasn't on board with. The pencil format is a bit weird - sure, it does give precision but it also makes it harder work to do areas like your cheekbones. I feel like it's trying to be different for the sake of it!

There are some areas where it's useful- the inner corners of your eyes and along your Cupid’s bow to cheat a fuller pout. With a little more practise, it may be something I grow to love!

Aromatherapy Associates Revive Morning Bath and Shower Oil

As a big fan of aromatherapy and oils in general, this was a nice one to round off the birthday box. It smells incredible and is a lovely way to add a bit of a treatment to your day, especially in the shower.

Massaging a bit into the skin is de-stressing and gives that high-end spa vibe to proceedings! It's a great little pick me up added to a steaming hot bath, too.

I get about 20 minutes to myself in the evenings to have a shower and try and unwind once my toddler is in bed and my husband takes the baby and I really try to consciously relax then, because it's the only time I stop all day.

A product like this really does help with that as it reminds you to take a moment, a few deep breaths and clear your mind. Fans of meditation and mindfulness will really like this too.

The birthday edition has been another huge hit for me, and I'm still loving LookFantastic. So happy birthday to the best little box I know. Here’s to another four years!
